27th Sep: Nailsea 5 Gordano V C Rovers 1
With the young guns of Gordano Valley Rangers hailing from Portishead this was classed as a local derby. Being the first ever, bragging rights to the first derby win was up for grabs. The weather may have been dull and dreary but the large crowd of 9 ensured the atmoshpere was electrically charged.

Like a drama from the pens of the best Hollywood writers the game unfolded straight from the kick off. Nailsea were straight on the attack like tighly sprung tigers but were unable to break the resilient Gordano defence. The game was scrappy at the start with Nailsea's passing a mixture of sublime and woeful. Gordano showed pace on the attack, but the centre back duo of Woody and Chaps was as solid as Mike Woodwards stomach. The Woodward was also playing well but with white bobby socks tape around his normal sock attire he looked like an 80s casting reject from fame.
Nailsea slowly began to get their passing game going and increased the pressure on the Gordano defence. Finally, after 35 minutes a Woodward corner was fumbled by the keeper and from six inches out Lansdown thundered in off the cross bar. Shortly after the Gunster - Paul 'Gun Dog' Gunning made it two nil. Sadly the goal was missed due to this reporter pouring himself a cup of tea! Still Nailsea surged forward like flood waters through Gloucester with Pete Rowe finding himself clean through to lift a delicate chip over the diving keeper to make it 3-0 at halft time.
The start of the second half saw Nailsea start slow and sloppy with Gordano easily the better team early doors. However, a Feargo run up the left saw him beat one, beat two, cut inside and shoot so high and wide he was immediately substituted. This action inpsired the Nailsea team into action which saw them gain the upper hand once more, a corner was cleared only as far as Adam Mark who from 20 yards out hit an unstoppable drive into the keepers bottom right hand corner. This topped an all action majestical performance by Marksy who had been dropped the previous week for deigning to turn up late.
However, straight from the kick off Gordano scored a deserved goal after some sloppy defending allowed their forward to shoot from a tight angle with 'Calamity' Moss showing the form of an England keeper by diving over the ball. Fortunately this goal started a Nailsea onslaught that would have led to more than Nailseas fifth and 'Gun Dog' Gunning's second if it hadn't of been for some cracking saves by the Gordano keeper.
Overall a solid performance from Nailsea with the likes of Woodward, Smith, Chaps and Rowe having great games but it was Marksy who easily walked away with Man of the Match with an outstanding performance. Jon Lansdown reliably informs he was given MVP!
